Freshman WR Jaxon Shipley's impressive double-reverse touchdown catch against Iowa State on Oct. 1 is nominated for the GEICO Play of the Year, Intersport announced today.

Each week for nine weeks, four incredible college football plays will be nominated as the Play of the Year on the GEICO Best of College Football Facebook page, facebook.com/BestofCollegeFootball . A panel of college football experts will evaluate the nine fan favorites and name the 2011 GEICO Play of the Year.

The true freshman and younger brother of All-American Texas alum Jordan Shipley is making his presence known in Longhorn nation. On this play, running back Foswhitt Whittaker took the snap from the shotgun and handed the ball off to Shipley, who was in motion. Shipley then proceeded to toss it backwards to quarterback David Ash, who lofted a touchdown pass back to Shipley, who was streaking down the right sideline. The touchdown was the icing on a cake during a 37-14 victory over the Cyclones. To view the play, go to: http://youtu.be/SY-mpbg-0oo.

Against Iowa State, Shipley finished with six catches for 141 yards and one touchdown. It was the 13th 100-yard receiving game by a freshman in school history. The 141 yards are the seventh most in a single game by a freshman and fifth most by a true freshman at Texas.

Shipley now has 25 receptions for 369 yards this season, with both marks ranking fifth on Texas' freshman single-season list. Shipley's nine receptions against Oklahoma on Oct. 8 are tied for the second highest single-game total for a UT freshman, two shy of Mike Davis' record of 11 set last season against Kansas State. Shipley has three touchdown catches on the year and also threw for a touchdown to TE D.J. Grant against UCLA.

Shipley's double-reverse touchdown is competing against three other plays from week five, including a diving touchdown catch from Wisconsin's Jared Abbrederis, a game-winning touchdown catch from BYU's Marcus Mathews and a big hit and fumble recovery from Syracuse's Ri'Shard Anderson and Dyshawn Davis.
