Player Quotes from Monday press conference

Sloan Thomas
What happened on Saturday?
"We lost. That's an obvious. We beat ourselves and we got beat by them. When you get beat twice it's not a good outcome."

How hard is it to lose to OU all four years of your career?
"Anytime you lose to a team that hates you as much as they (OU) do it's a hollow feeling. When it's your senior year and you are 0-4 against this team and no matter what you do you will never get the chance to play them again, it's very disappointing and frustrating. Knowing that I do have the opportunity to play another football game and that was not my last, that's the upside to it. We just have to regroup and refocus as a team."

How do you feel about Vince Young starting this coming weekend?
"I'm happy with every quarterback we have playing. Luckily we are blessed as a team to have a lot of talent at the quarterback position. They are both young, but Chance (Mock) is a strong kid, and he – just like Vince (Young) at the beginning of the year – had to grow up and understand things last year. Off and on the field they are rooting for each other so it's not going to be a problem."

Brett Robin
How do you feel after last weekend?
"This weekend was pretty disappointing and we're hurt over it. But same as with a win, you have to forget about it on Monday and move on."

Is it tough to forget about it?
"It's a lot harder to forget about a loss than a win, but there is no chance in the matter. If we don't forget about it, then it could beat us twice, including this coming Saturday. One loss is one loss, and we don't need to turn it into two losses."

What is the most disappointing thing about the loss?
"We just had too many mistakes. You can't turn the ball over six times in one game, especially against the number one team in the country, and you can't miss tackles or have penalties. We hurt ourselves, and that's one of the most disappointing things about the loss."

Was there a time in the game when you gave up?
"For me personally, I went into the fourth quarter thinking we were still going to come back and win the game. Losing never entered my mind, but I can only speak for myself. The attitude on the sideline up until the last couple minutes of the game was one of encouragement and belief that we could get it done."

After two losses in the first half of the season, is there a fear of giving up already?
"There is no way our team is going to pack it up. We have too much pride around here. We play for The University of Texas, and we're not going to just lie down and quit. We want to play against the best athletes that we can every week and I think we have that in the Big 12. We play because we love the game and we want to compete and win every week."

Jason Glynn
Is Oklahoma that much better than Texas?
"I wouldn't say so. We had some trouble with turning over the ball. Anytime you play a good team like Oklahoma and turn the ball over six times, there will probably be a very similar outcome."

How do you put this behind you?
"We have to go and win next week, because we still have the rest of the season to play. We have to take it week by week, and last week is over and we have to face Iowa State now. We need to practice hard this week and make sure we get a win on Saturday, because we can't let Oklahoma beat us this week too."

How do you get over the loss?
"It's tough overcoming a loss because we don't lose that often. When you lose as bad we did, you get kind of frustrated, but we have to be grown up and put it behind us and look to the future. You're always going to remember the game but you can't let something sit there and affect you during the rest of the season. If anything it could help us, because we never want to lose like that again."

Derrick Johnson
Is Oklahoma that much better than Texas?
"I don't think so. It was a hard loss to swallow. We just didn't control the things like OU did. We didn't execute what the coaches called. We played hard, but we did a poor job of executing."

Why were you not able to beat them?
"I think we just executed poorly. In the last two years, I was here we didn't do that badly on offense or defense against OU. It just goes back to the errors, and we got ourselves in the hole early and couldn't get out of it."

What did Coach Brown talk about in the locker room after the game?
"Coach Brown told us to keep our heads up. We have one-half of the season gone and it's time to focus on the second half. We have a lot of hard games left to play and we can't let this loss beat us the rest of the season. A loss like we had Saturday takes a lot out of you and it's going to be hard to get on track after this game. We have to go back, see what we did wrong and correct it."

Marcus Tubbs
How do you feel after this weekend?
"It hurts a lot. We tried to get rid of it yesterday when we watched film on it. We looked at our mistakes yesterday and now we have to correct them. We're moving on tomorrow."

Is Oklahoma that much better than Texas?
"They're a good team, but they are not that much better than us. Just like in the Arkansas game, we hurt ourselves with a lot of mistakes like lining up wrong, not holding our gaps or taking care of our own responsibilities. They are a good team, and that's why they are number one."

Was it the players or the schematics that hurt the team so badly?
"It's the players. Our coaches put us in the right positions every weekend, and we have to go out there and play. You line up on every play and come in the hole, and if you have to make a tackle then you have to make it and not be denied. It falls back on the players because we are the ones out there playing in the games."

Does this game hurt the rest of your season?
"Going into the game, we knew we were going to have more games after Oklahoma, and we still know we're going to have to play good teams after this one. We're not trying to lose any more games; we know we can win the rest of the games, and we're going to go out there and prepare each week like we are going to win."

Phillip Geiggar
How hard will it be to put this behind you?
"A loss is a loss no matter who it is. I don't think it will be any more difficult than if it was a different team. A loss is disappointing no matter where it comes from."

What was it about the OU offense that made them so good on Saturday?
"I think it's a combination. Jason White was on fire and their receivers are good, there is no question about that."

What can you take away from this game?
"I can take it as a learning tool and grow from it. That's about all I can do with it."

Roy Williams
What's the mood of the team?
"We lost and we're hurt. I wish we could have won. We just need to bounce back, get ready for Iowa State and go from there."

Is OU that much better than Texas?
"They are a very good football team. They put a lot of pressure on our quarterback. They were well coached and well prepared and we just didn't play well that day."

How do you feel about the quarterback situation?
"We have two young quarterbacks; one is a pocket passer and one is a scrambler. The coaches feel that Vince (Young) fits this team better at this time. It really doesn't matter to us who is the quarterback because we believe that both of them can give us the ball and can handle the offense."

Do you feel that your blocking is going to be better the rest of the season?
"I feel that our blocking has improved tremendously on the outside with the receivers. We only get so many chances in the game to catch the ball and we try to take advantage of those things. I think our blocking has improved and will continue to get better."
