Two Minute DrillTwo-Minute Drill: B.J. Johnson

» Two-Minute Drill archives

How was your off-season?
"It went pretty well. I worked out every day, running, trying to make sure I worked on the little things that I need to do to get better. I worked on trying to get out of my breaks, running after the catch and we worked a lot on the chemistry with the quarterbacks also."

How did it feel to start back with everyone reporting?
"You're just hyped, because you've been waiting on this all year, thinking about it back in the spring. It just seems like it takes forever for the season to get here, and now it's here, and I'm just ready to play."

What did you do to relax this summer?
"I did just that, relaxed. I was making sure I took care of my body, making sure all the bumps and bruises I had in the past year were taken care of, and making sure that I'm 100 percent when the season starts."

Is there anything such as playing video games you do to relax?
"Video games are 24/7. The new college (football) game, and I'm a real big fan of golf. Me and Roy (Williams) and Bo Scaife, we've been playing that a lot, so that's what I like to do."

Who's the best?
"(In golf) it depends on what day it is and how you're feeling and if your guy feels like playing. Sometimes my guy doesn't feel like playing, but he's getting a lot better. Right now in the college football, I've been whipping Bo every day. I think when we first got the game, I beat him the first 15 times we played. I haven't played Roy in it yet, so I'm going to find out."

What team do you use?
"I like to use Texas, but I like to use Notre Dame, or sometimes Miami."

Who would you compare yourself to in the NFL?
"I would say Isaac Bruce, Marvin Harrison, because they're not the big receivers like T.O. (Terrell Owens) or Randy Moss, they're the ones that are quick and run underneath and always work hard, and that's who I try to compare myself to."

How is your relationship with Roy Williams and Sloan Thomas?
"We're really close, really tight. We came in together and we're going to leave together. We're always doing things together all the time. I've got their back and they've got my back, and that's the best thing about it. You get so much hype for Roy, but he never gets a big head, we're always the same unit while we're together, so it's a good thing."

What's your ideal car?
"I always said that if I ever get some money, I want to get a big 18-wheeler on some 64's. I saw Karl Malone had an 18-wheeler, and I liked how he freaked it out, so I would like to do that."

You mentioned Karl Malone. Do you have a favorite NBA team?
"I've got to go with the Lakers. They've been so dominant the last couple of years. I've got to go with them."

How did you start liking the Lakers over the Mavericks?
"I like the Mavericks, but I haven't always been with the Mavericks, so I'm not just going to jump on with everybody else. They're a team that can score a lot, but the Lakers, I like the flash they got, and now that they've picked up Karl and Gary (Payton), I'm even a bigger fan now."

Is there anything about yourself that people may not know?
"I don't know if people know that I like basketball as much as football. But basketball was always my first love. I've always been a lot better in football. I can still hoop, don't get me wrong. I started playing basketball when I was five. I didn't start playing football until the sixth grade, and I quit and came back in the seventh grade and started playing again. With basketball, I've always been a big fan. I just love it."

If you could be as good at anything outside of sports as you are at football, what would it be?
"Playing the piano. Roy and I had a class my freshman or sophomore year, and I said I needed more than just a semester to do better, but it's always something I wanted to do. I didn't stick with it after the class, but when I get a chance and get some money, I'm going to get a piano and learn how to play it."
