Two Minute DrillTwo-Minute Drill: Roy Williams

» Two-Minute Drill archives

How did you end up at Texas?
"They threw the ball a lot. In the 1999 Cotton Bowl against Arkansas, they really needed some help at wide receiver, so I knew there was a good chance for me to play my first year."

If you could be as good at anything as you are at football, what would that be?
"Baseball. They get the guaranteed money, and they're playing three-fourths of the year and doing something they love to do. I played when I was little, it was actually my best sport when I was little, but when I got hit with the ball, I quit. I was about 14 or 15."

Are you a music fan?
"Yes, I listen to some music. I like Justin Timberlake, and I'm a Ginuwine fan, that's for the girls."

Describe your ideal car.
"My dream car is a Lamborghini. I haven't figured out what it would be like yet, but just the Lamborghinis I've been seeing in pictures since I was in second grade. Hopefully we can get one some day, even though I don't know how to drive a stick."

Who do you respect the most in the NFL?
"I think Michael Vick. He goes into Lambeau Field and beats Brett Favre and the Packers in the cold. It hasn't been done before. He's no trash talker, he just goes in there and handles his business."

Of the wide receivers, is there someone you look to as a direction you want to go in?
"I like to put three in one. I like Jerry Rice's hands, T.O.'s (Terrell Owens') run after catch, and just Randy Moss' ability, period. He's a freak out there."

What inspired you as a kid?
"My brother, he was a wide receiver. I was a running back when I was little. I just wanted to be like him. I went to high school and broke all his records, broke all his records in junior high school, and I'm trying to go for them in college, but he played at Texas Tech in the Southwestern Conference, so I can't do anything about that."

Just to wrap up, let's do some word association. Just say what comes to your mind.
Mack Brown? "He's a cool coach, a positive coach who wants you to do the right things on and off the field. He just wants to win and tries to do everything he can."
Chance Mock? "A big guy, inexperienced, but should get better as the season goes on."
B.J. Johnson? "A playmaker, he hates it when I get the ball all the time, because he's open most of the time, and he is open, and can catch."
Sloan Thomas? "He steals all my touchdowns. When I come out of the game, he comes in the game and gets all my touchdowns. He's a cool guy on and off the field. He's going to make it, even if he doesn't play football the rest of his life."
