Minute Drill: Tony Jeffery
» Two-Minute Drill archives
Senior
wide receiver Tony Jeffery is the Longhorns
top returning receiver heading into the 2004
season. A versatile athlete, Jeffery is a former
prep quarterback and also is the holder for
UT's place kicks. Against North Texas, Jeffery
caught three passes for 23 yards. He took time
with the media this week to discuss Arkansas
gameweek.
On
the match-up with Arkansas:
I think we are all looking forward to it. It'll
be a good test for us. We talked about critical
situations and we didn't have many in last week's
game. So it'll be interesting to see how we respond
to the critical situations this week.
On receivers doing the intangibles:
We spend
a lot of time on the run game as well as the
pass game. We take pride in our blocking and
it showed against North Texas. We sprung a lot
of big runs with our downfield blocking.
On preparing the younger players for the atmosphere
in Fayetteville:
I tried to give them some of
my experience. You can only talk about it so
much. It's something that you've got to experience
for yourself. I've actually spent time talking
to Nate Jones since he is from Texarkana and
I think he has given all of us a little insight
on what it will be like because he's been to
a couple of games there.
On if the team is seeking revenge after last
year's loss to Arkansas:
We want to win every
game. Arkansas happens to be the next team on
the schedule. We feel like we have something
to prove as a team. We were disappointed about
last year's game, but this is new team and we
are just focused on doing what we need to do
to win.
On playing on the road:
I know in the past,
we've always been focused when we play on the
road. It's tougher on the road than at home so
we try to be as prepared as possible for those
games. We know that the other teams are gunning
for us because of the name on the jersey, so
it always presents a challenge, but we'll be
ready. |
