Two Minute DrillTwo-Minute Drill: Vince Young

» Two-Minute Drill archives

Sophomore QB Vince Young is an exciting player who combines a strong arm with great foot speed and athletic ability. He is a member of the Davey O'Brien Award Watch List (nation's top quarterback) and was the 2003 Big 12 Freshman of the Year. The Houston native has completed 98-of-164 passes (59.8%) for 1,308 yards and seven TDs in his career while rushing for 1,047 yards and 11 TDs on 143 carries. He recently ran the Two-Minute Drill with MackBrown-TexasFootball.com.

On the atmosphere around the team:
Our chemistry is great right now. The coaches are even having fun with the players, so it seems like everyone is having a good time. But, when it is game time, we get focused and realize that it is time to play ball.

On the match-up with Arkansas:
I'm very eager to play. I've heard that their stadium and fans are crazy so it should be a fun atmosphere. I'm looking forward to going there, having fun and competing.

On the passing game:
Everybody is going to key-in on our running game. I believe that I'm doing a good job passing the ball right now. So, we're just going to have to mix it up on them.

On the importance of playing well versus North Texas:
We went out there and took care of business. The way we played let coach Brown know that we are willing to go out there and play for him. The team came together and I think we are going to fight as the season goes on. It was a great win for us and everybody was excited, but we've got to put that in the past right now.

On protecting yourself:
As the quarterback, coaches have been telling me that I need to be aware and to stay away from taking the big hits. It is important that I protect myself. Sometimes, it's better to step out of bounds instead of taking a hit.

On Cedric Benson:
He's so explosive. He'll take a four-yard gain and you'll think that he's down and all of a sudden, he'll come up out of there and change it into a 20 or 25-yard gain. Knowing how he is, he just wants it. He's a playmaker for our offense right now.

On preparing for the Arkansas defense:
They have a great defense. Our defense has thrown a lot of stuff at us in camp and I've got so much confidence in the receivers right now, I think we're prepared for that. I believe our receivers are prepared for that kind of scheme.
