Sophomore S Michael Griffin
is making his presence felt both in the secondary
and on special teams so far in 2004. Through
Texas' first two games, Griffin has registered
six tackles, all solo, with three coming on special
teams to tie for the team lead. Coming out of the
bye week, Griffin spoke about focus and the defense
as he ran the Two-Minute Drill with MackBrown-TexasFootball.com.
On how he spent his time over the bye week:
I spent a lot of time watching film and watching
other games around the country. I like to watch
some of the better safeties in the country play
to see what they do. I think I can take some
of that and add it to my game. Also, I like to
watch offenses and practice going over my keys.
I also took time to look at a little Rice film
so I could start getting ready for them.
On the importance of focusing on the next game:
We need to make sure we take everything step-by-step.
Rice is coming into this weekend 2-0 and they
put points on the board last week against Hawaii,
so we are going to have to do a good job. It's
important for us to focus on Rice and not worry
about what's going to happen in the future.
On Michael Huff:
Michael has kind of turned
into a big brother to me. I've started to look
up to him. Coach Akina likes him a lot and uses
him as an example in the film room of what to
do on the field, so I try and use him to make
myself better.
On the camaraderie of the defense:
Since coach
Robinson came, the defense has really come together
even more. He taught us a lot about team effort.
We have a lot of great individual players, and
with coach Robinson's help, we have the chance
to be a great defense. All we need to do is play
together and we can go a long way. |
