Two Minute DrillTwo Minute Drill: David Thomas

» Two-Minute Drill archives

Junior tight end David Thomas continues to put up great numbers this season. He already has eight receptions for 208 yards and three touchdowns including a four-catch 90-yard performance against Rice. He has also been an integral part of the running game as not only a pass catching threat but a blocker as well. The Wollforth, Texas checked in with MackBrown-TexasFootball.com for a Two-Minute Drill.

On Tony Jeffery's block on his TD run against Rice:
The wideouts as a whole have done a great job so far blocking. Our running game wouldn't be anywhere near as effective as it is if it weren't for them. As for Tony's block, it was one of the better blocks you'll see. I didn't actually see it when it happened, but I heard it.

On gaining extra yardage along the sidelines:
You can see defenders coming as you are running down the sidelines and you don't want to just let them push you out of bounds. So, I try to force them to really knock me out of bounds. I like to duck my shoulder and bring some contact to the defender so he can't just nudge me out of bounds.

On getting open so much:
I think a lot of it has to do with Vince and Cedric being in the backfield. I've definitely got a few balls off of play action and bootlegs. When the defense sees the run action, they have to read and that leaves some space for the tight ends to work in.

On Texas' defense helping to prepare the offense:
Coach Robinson runs a complicated defense so going against that for the first part of the year was definitely a big help. We've done so much in practice that there are hardly any looks we'll see in games that we haven't already seen on the practice field.

On pride in the running game:
We definitely know that we have a hand in the rushing totals at the end of the game. We take a lot of pride in blocking our guys and coach Chambers keeps charts on that stuff. It is important that we do our job on every play whether it is run blocking or catching passes.
