Two Minute DrillTwo Minute Drill: Tony Jeffery

» Two-Minute Drill archives

Senior Tony Jeffery has been doing it all for the 2004 Longhorns. In the Baylor game, Jeffery set career highs for receptions with five, yards with 66 and receiving touchdowns with two. He has also been doing the job on special teams with a blocked punt versus the Bears and a touchdown run on a fake field goal against Rice. Fortunately, MackBrown-TexasFootball.com was able to slow down the senior out of Houston, Texas and had him run the Two-Minute Drill.

On his career game versus Baylor:
Right now, I'm feeling very confident. I practice really hard. I learned a while back that practices should be harder than games, so I work in practice so when I get my opportunities in games, I can make the plays. I still feel like I could have done more versus Baylor. I had a drop that would have converted a third down, and I'm more concerned about that than I am about the two touchdowns and a blocked punt.

On how special teams play affects the rest of the team:
I think it is a good thing when the other players see a guy like me, who got his start on special teams, now starting at wide receiver. They also see that I'm still playing on the special teams units. I think it gives the guys a big boost. As you look around the country, you see that a lot of teams are using their best players on special teams, because it can win or lose games.

On the success in the passing game against Baylor:
I think it's huge. It's nice, especially for the young guys, to get some touches. Vince did a great job of throwing the ball and spreading it around (Young completed passes to seven different receivers). Some of those guys had their first catches, which was important to get out of the way. Now, they can focus on going into this week.

On the passing game affecting the offense:
We have had a lot of success running the ball, but it will certainly help us if we can be two-dimensional. A lot of teams are going to stack up against the run, which will leave the receivers with one-on-one coverage. It will be huge for us to win those one-on-one matchups and that is what we were brought here to do.

On his favorite part of the Red River Shootout:
I really like the rivalry. I enjoy the bus rides to any games, but pulling into the fairgrounds and seeing all the fans really gets my motor running.
