Senior safety Phillip Geiggar has had a nose for the ball this season. He's already recorded 43 tackles, broken up two passes, intercepted one ball, while forcing and recovering two fumbles. The 5-11, 205-pounder out of Shreveport, La. will have to be a major presence again this weekend as Texas faces the spread offense of Texas Tech. He took a break from his busy schedule to run the Two-Minute Drill with MackBrown-TexasFootball.com.
On the secondary's role against Texas Tech:
We're definitely excited. I think our secondary and linebackers are up for the challenge. I know that the cornerbacks and Huff are all pumped up, so we are going to be ready.
On playing in Lubbock:
I've only been there once, during my freshman year. I'm looking forward to going back and playing in front of that crowd. I know they are crazy. We'll probably have some tortillas thrown at us.
On where the defense is half way through the season:
I feel good about where we are. I think we are a lot further along than I thought we would be, especially learning a new scheme. We only have one loss and we have a chance to win the rest of them, so I think we are in pretty good shape.
On the defense's confidence level:
We walk in with confidence. The biggest thing is that we trust the guy next to us. From the defensive line to the secondary, we all trust that each guy is going to get his job done.
On causing turnovers:
When the defense makes plays like that, it excites the whole team and the fans. We want to try and get them as much as possible because they get everybody riled up.
