Q&A with David Thomas
Can you talk about your performance at Baylor and your touchdown
catch?
It was a lot of fun just to get out there and compete and
get the win. We played hard and played well. Anytime you win 56-0,
it's hard to find something to complain about. It was a lot fun to
get involved in the passing game, and the quarterbacks and running
backs ran the ball well, and I was excited that I got a chance to
get in the end zone.
How has it been playing with both Chance Mock and Vince Young?
We know that with whichever one is in the game, we have a chance
to win. They're both playing really well. When Vince is in the
game, you have to think more about blocking, because you know there's
a chance he'll run, and you have to think of that when you're running
your routes. With Chance, he's a mobile guy, too, but he's going
to put the ball right where you need it.
What did you done differently this offseason to prepare for your
sophomore year?
This offseason, I worked on getting bigger and
getting stronger. Last year, my freshman year, I was primarily
a third down guy going in on third and long to catch the ball,
but this year, I get in there on every play and I have to block
a lot more. I just worked on getting bigger and stronger to handle
the big defensive ends and linebackers.
Did you do anything differently to condition?
I tried to work
in the weight room every day with the strength and conditioning
staff. They did a good job of making sure I'm ready for this year.
They knew what I wanted to do and helped me with that all summer
and spring.
What has (tight ends) coach Chambers brought to the team and how
has he helped you this season?
Coach Chambers has a lot of energy.
He likes to see us do well, and he does his best to make sure we're
ready for the game and that we won't get into a situation where
we won't know what to do. He wants us to do well and likes to see
us succeed. He's such a good guy off the field, too. We have fun
on and off the field together, all of the tight ends. He's a great
coach.
What has he helped you the most with?
His big deal is to tell
us to take a weakness and turn it into a strength. He wants me
to work on my blocking. I'm not as big as some of the other guys,
so he wants to see me become a better blocker. That's what he preaches
to us -- to take a weakness and turn it into a strength.
How much of an influence has Bo Scaife been on you?
Having Bo
around this year has been great. He's seen everything and has been
around, so he sees the little things that I need to work on and
helps me with those. Then the wideouts -- Roy (Williams), Sloan
(Thomas) and B.J. (Johnson), they helped me a lot this spring telling
me the all of the little things they know. |
