THE
PRACTICE REPORT: Texas returned to the practice field on Wednesday
afternoon and went through a 90-minute practice at Frank Denius Fields.
The Longhorns opened the workout with 15 minutes of special teams work,
followed by 30 minutes of individual drills. The team also worked on
one-on-one drills, scrimmage situations and continued to implement the
offensive and defensive game plans against the scout teams.
JAMMER
RESPONDS: CB Quentin Jammer admittedly was a bit surprised by the
comments reported on Wednesday from Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach.
The Red Raiders second-year coach was quoted as saying that the 2000
first-team All-Big 12 performer and preseason All-American was "a
decent player" and that any talk of him shutting down one side
of the field was "not even close to possible."
"I
was surprised to hear about those comments, but I can't worry about
what other coaches might think or say before we play them," Jammer
said following practice. "I play to win for my teammates, coaches
and The University of Texas. Coach Brown would never say something like
that about an opposing player. He's a great coach who is all about respect.
Our program is about respect and that's what I have to prepare to do
on Saturday - earn Texas Tech's respect."
ANOTHER
HOME SELLOUT: Saturday's game against Texas Tech has been sold out
for more than a month and it will mark the eighth consecutive home sellout
and the 16th in the last 18 home contests since head coach Mack Brown
took over the UT program before the 1998 season.
STREAKING:
The Longhorns have won 10 consecutive games at Darrell K Royal-Texas
Memorial Stadium and are 18-2 at home during the Brown era. This weekend,
UT will try to match its longest home winning streak since 1982-84 (11
games).
LOOKING
AHEAD: The Longhorns will wrap up their preparations for this weekend's
contest against Texas Tech on Thursday afternoon with a one-hour closed
practice in Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. Saturday's game,
which will be played in front of a national television audience on FOX
Sports Net, is scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. (CT) at Royal-Texas Memorial
Stadium.
