AUSTIN, Texas -- University of Texas senior linebacker Lee Jackson (Longview, Texas) and junior defensive end O.J. McClintock (Austin, Texas) will miss this week's Big 12 opener against Texas Tech at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium due to injuries, Longhorns football trainer Tom McVan said on Thursday.

"Lee has been struggling with a recurring turf toe injury he originally suffered during preseason workouts," McVan said. "He has tried to practice on it, but he just hasn't been able to move the way he needs to and continues to re-aggravate the injury. O.J. returned to practice two weeks ago and has been battling plantar fasciitis. He hasn't been able to practice this week. We are going to hold both of them out this week and re-evaluate their injuries again next week."

Jackson was sidelined for the last 10 days of the preseason and the first week of the year after sustaining the toe injury in the first fall scrimmage on Aug. 16. He returned to workouts the week prior to the North Carolina game but aggravated the injury while seeing limited action against the Tar Heels. The 6-foot-3, 205-pounder did not play last week at Houston and has been limited this week as a result of the turf toe pain flaring up. Jackson, who saw action in only five games (two starts) a year ago due to a nagging leg injury, posted 18 tackles (14 solo), two TFLs and one forced fumble as a junior in 2000. He moved from safety to outside linebacker last spring.

McClintock was sidelined for the entire preseason and the first two games of 2001 after suffering a serious cut on his left forearm in an off-field accident. He returned to workouts the week prior to the Houston game but has been sidelined this week as a result of the plantar fasciitis in his right foot. The 6-foot-2, 250-pounder, who has not played this season, posted 19 tackles and intercepted a pair of passes last season, including a 23-yard touchdown return against Houston. McClintock moved from linebacker to end last spring and showed signs of being a force at that position.
