AUSTIN,
Texas -
Fresh off a three-game winning streak, including a pair of road victories
and a win over Top 25-ranked Colorado, Texas (7-1, 4-1 Big 12) climbed
one spot to No. 5 when the second edition of Bowl Championship Series
standings were released on Monday night.
The Longhorns,
who are currently ranked fifth by both The Associated Press and
USA Today/ESPN Top 25 polls, trail only Nebraska (9-0), Oklahoma
(7-1), Miami (6-0) and Michigan (7-1) in the standings.
In their
seven victories in 2001, which includes a 44-14 victory against a North
Carolina team that is currently ranked No. 22 and a 41-7 win against
No. 14 Colorado, the Longhorns have won by an average score of 43-12.
UT's lone loss this season came in a hard-fought 14-3 defensive struggle
with No. 3 Oklahoma, which currently ranks second in the BCS standings.
That game was a 7-3 contest until the final two minutes of the game.
Texas travels
to Baylor (2-5, 0-5 Big 12) on Saturday riding a six-game road (not
including neutral site games) win streak. That's the Horns longest road
win streak since they posted 13 straight road victories from 1981-84.
The Horns
finished 12th in last year's final BCS standings.
