Senior WR, Roy Williams |
Kalen Thornton is a talented and explosive fourth-year
defensive end who has taken on a leadership role on the defensive
line in 2003. In a regular series, the Dallas native brings fans
interviews with his teammates from his perspective, "on the
edge."
Here we are with the final K.T. On the Edge.
I'm here with former dorm buddy, Roy Williams. We've had the last
few practices together, what are you feeling these days?
It's the last one and it's sad to see the seniors go, but everybody
has to move on in their lives, and hopefully, our lives can be
filled with good joy and more football. We came in together on recruiting visits and spent a couple of years
together in the dorm. Who do you think is going to be your next boy,
the boy in the NFL you're going to break it in with? Where does it
look like you're maybe going to be?
It looks like Arizona and San Diego are maybe going to have the first
two picks. They both need quarterbacks, so it doesn't look like a
receiver is going to San Diego or Arizona, but Michael Vick and the
Atlanta Falcons, they need another wideout and big guy out there.
Hopefully somebody will take a chance with me, and I'll go out there
and perform well, and I know wherever I go, I'll meet a good friend.
Remember back in the day, we used to get on that NCAA Football.
I talked to a few people, and they say you might be the king of the
game, do you think that's true?
There's no doubt about it. College football, Madden football, I'm
ready to take my experience to the next level. Hopefully I can win
the Madden Challenge and show that I'm the best player in the world.
In terms of your goal, you're obviously on the way to playing professional
football, what kind of goals do you have for your rookie season?
Just go in and learn the offense, learn everything that I can. Hopefully
I can go to a place where there are good veterans, like Oakland with
Jerry Rice and Tim Brown, where I can learn. I want to really make
myself work to try to make the Pro Bowl in my first year.
You can do it, too. I know you've got a lot of pride Odessa. Tell
everybody out there about Odessa, how it's more than just a little
town, it's a city. Give a couple of shouts out and tell them what
going on.
Yeah, it's a city, not a town. We're 97,000 strong. We're big on
football. Odessa Permian is going to do it next year, and I want
to say what's up to my mom, dad and family, and Michael.
You and I are both fans of pancakes. Can you please describe the
perfect pancake?
The perfect pancake…it doesn't matter what size or shape.
What it has to do with is color. I need it to be yellow, not brown,
not black, but yellow. Yellow is the key so that it melts in your
mouth, and you put a little bit of butter on there.
We came in and have
been waiting for that single, "Chocolate
Daddy" for a while now, is it ever going to come out?
"Chocolate Daddy" has retired, he's a one hit wonder with
no hits, so now we have to come up with something else. I'm thinking
about being a painter, an artist, just throwing the paintbrush on
some paper and make it marvelous, and sell it for $5,000.
That's really sad to see. "Chocolate Daddy" was jammin',
and if there's anybody out there who might get Roydell in the NFL,
you might want to ask him to sing "Chocolate Daddy," he
can really go. |
