CHANCE MOCK EARNS UT'S DARRELL K ROYAL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
After
completing 4-of-5 passes for 74 yards, including the game-winning
9-yard TD to B.J. Johnson, senior QB Chance Mock was tabbed Texas'
Darrell K Royal Offensive Player of the Week for the Texas Tech
game. It was Mock's first UT Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Entering the game for his first snaps of the day with 2:03 ramaining
in the contest and the Longhorns trailing 40-35, Mock led UT on a
seven-play, 86-yard drive that took 1:17 off the clock in a 43-40
victory. Facing a second and 10 at the UT 14-yard line, Mock connected
with Roy Williams on a 54-yard pass to move the ball to the Raiders
32. Then, on third-down and eight, he hit Tony Jeffery on a 10-yard
strike to advance UT to the Tech 20. Mock scrambled for 11 yards
and got out of bounds at the nine to set up the game-winning toss
to Johnson on a fade route in the right corner of the end zone. After
two penalties on the two-point PAT attempt, Mock snuck it in for
a two-point conversion and a three-point win.

MARCUS TUBBS TABBED UT'S MIKE CAMPBELL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Senior DT Marcus Tubbs registered four tackles, a sack, one TFL,
three QB pressures, batted down a pass and blocked a PAT in helping
Texas post a 43-40 win over Texas Tech and earned the Longhorns'
Mike Campbell Defensive Player of the Week award. It was Tubbs' first
UT Defensive Player of the Week honor in 2003 and the third of his
career. He also was named the Frank Denius Special Teams Player of
the Week after blocking the game-winning field goal attempt in the
Longhorns 2002 victory at Kansas State. Tubbs' first quarter block
of a Red Raider extra point put a damper on the visitor's first score
and allowed Texas to take a 7-6 lead on its first possession. It
was the senior tackle's fourth career blocked kick (two field goals/two
PATs), tying him with Shane Dronett (1989-91) on the UT all-time
list in that category. Tubbs is tied for third on the team with 72
tackles, is tied for second on the squad with 11 TFLs and ranks third
on the team with five sacks in 2003.

DUSTY MANGUM NAMED FRANK DENIUS SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Junior PK Dusty Mangum connected on a pair of field goals and was
good on all three of his PAT attempts in helping the Horns out-score
Texas Tech 43-40. For his effort,s he was named the Frank Denius
Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this season
and the eighth time in his three-year career. Mangum's first field
goal came from 45-yards out and capped a nine-play, 46-yard drive
that put UT up 24-14 at the half. His second field goal came in the
third quarter after Texas Tech drew within 24-21. His 34-yard kick
put the Horns up 27-21. Mangum has connected on 7-of-9 field goals
and 50-of-51 PATs for 71 points on the year. He passed Russell Erxleben
(267 points/1975-78) into fifth place on the UT all-time scoring
list with his nine points in the game, upping his career total to
274. |
