Texas quotes

Mack Brown, Head Coach
On the first half deficit against Oklahoma State …

"I'm really happy. There were two or three things that I thought were really significant in this game. They really can't play any better than they did in the first half. It was an unbelievable half; every ball that was tipped, they caught; there were times they would go the wrong direction, they would score. It was just unbelievable, I mean they played a perfect half of football for Oklahoma State and we didn't respond to it as well as we could have … to think that we were down 35 to seven with four seconds to go in the half is unbelievable."

On coming back to win by 21 points …
"The 80 yard drive to make it 35-14 at least gave us something to talk about at the halftime that was positive so at halftime we told them, "what a perfect half by Oklahoma State, they can't get any better … and we can't do any worse than we were doing." We were losing explosives (plays), we weren't winning turnovers, we weren't winning the kicking game, and they weren't hitting us. I said what we're going to is score on the first drive and then beat them 42 to 35 and I apologized to them at the end of the game because I underestimated them."

Greg Davis, Offensive Coordinator
On the slow start in the first half …

"I don't know (why we started slow). We felt like we had some plays to be made in the first half and Vince Young had a tipped pass for interception that gave them a short field. And I thought the drive right before the half was huge. We got the ball with 80 yards to go in 1:25 and to go get a touchdown I think really settled everyone down and we knew we were going to get the ball after halftime and scoring in the opening drive of the second half was huge because it kept the momentum and the crowd was wonderful."

Greg Robinson, Co-Defensive Coordinator
On the second half defensive changes …

"There wasn't much, there really wasn't. Just some here and some there, really it was just more of trying to get an awareness of what they were doing to us. They gave us a couple of things that were a little different and then we get to that fourth (down) when they hit that pitch play and it was unfortunate because I really thought we were going to stop them. But the second half was really just more of the players really coming out and playing and unbelievable second half. It was really incredible to be a part of what went on in that second half."

Cedric Benson, Senior RB
On what was said at halftime …

"There was a lot of energy in the locker room, (the coaches) wanted to make sure we were ready to play, ready to come out in the second half and get it back. But in my mind, I think everybody already had that mind frame walking into the locker-room at halftime. Really, I think we could have not said a word and came out and still done the same thing that we did to (Oklahoma State). Everybody was disappointed and nobody wanted to be embarrassed that way and we were coming out to set the record straight."

Derrick Johnson, Senior LB
On the come-from-behind win over Oklahoma State …

"Oklahoma State is a good team and they made some great plays, but it really shows the character of this team, to not give up. We never gave up.

Bo Scaife, Sr., TE
On attacking the underneath pattern with the tight end …

"We recognized that we could get some yards with the pass underneath, and Coach Davis saw that I was hot. It was kind of like being in Vegas, when things are going your way you just keep rolling the dice. They showed a lot of confidence in me and they called my number and I was able to get open. We got our tires moving and we never looked back after that."

On big touchdown catch …
"They were kind of backed up in the zone, and Vince did a good job of seeing me and he gave me a good ball to handle. Then I just used my arms to stretch out and reach for the pylon."

On the change from first half to second …
"We had made some mistakes in the first half and they took advantage of some things we couldn't control. We knew we could play better, and we did in the second half."

On what this says about the team …
"We were young at the beginning of the year, but now we have shown everyone across the nation that we are tough and mature and physical team."

Ramonce Taylor, Fr., RB
On the package that was out in for me, especially the reverse …

"They just put that play in for me, I guess because I made the big play against Colorado. They put some things in the game plan that was just for me and they seemed to work tonight."

On getting past the freshman wall …
"I feel like I can step up and do some things for this team. I have matured some and I am glad they are letting me contribute."

On the comeback …
"It is great to show the kind of team we are and to come back in front of 84,000 fans."
