The Longhorns scrimmaged for just over an hour in Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Saturday morning. MackBrown-TexasFootball.com tracked a few highlights and then spoke with Coach Brown following the practice.

On the scrimmage:
I thought it was by far the best scrimmage we've had for the spring. The guys were ready to play, they were excited about being out there, and it was very, very physical. We gave up some big plays on defense, but the guys played great goal line defense and scoring defense. We moved the ball and had some explosive plays on offense (16-plus yards passing, 12-plus yards rushing). We still had a few turnovers that the defense one and the offense needs to correct, but the only thing that we really need to improve that I saw out of the scrimmage was the kicking game.

On Ramonce Taylor and the running backs:
It's our biggest question mark. Ramonce has the great speed and the great ball skills. We're just trying to get him more physical inside. This will be a good film to watch from that area. We're also trying to get him to play better without the ball.

On Chris Ogbonnaya:
He has been a real surprise for us this spring. He continues to get better and is 215 pounds. He's very bright and has great ball skills, and we feel like he's a guy we can continue to watch that gives a chance for the fall.

On Michael Houston:
Michael, just being here, gets better every day. He made a couple of runs we hadn't seen, but it's really difficult on a freshman coming in who is as young as he is. He learns a little bit more what to do at the position every day.

On the quarterbacks:
Matt and Vince playing great. Both of them give us a chance to win right now. Matt has improved more this spring than he has the other four years he's been here. He really will help us going into fall, while Vince just gets better every time he goes out there.

On defensive standouts from the scrimmage:
Brian Orakpo has done some good things at defensive end. Drew Kelson made a couple of great plays at safety, and it looked like to me, just starting out, that Rashad Bobino chased the ball well and did some good things.

Highlights:
Ramonce Taylor's number has changed from 5 to 11 … the first team offense moved the ball inside the five-yard line on the opening drive before a false start penalty and the defense pushed them back, which led to a missed field goal … on the second possession of the first team offense-defense, Aaron Ross intercepted a pass and returned it 30 yards for a TD … Michael Houston rushed for 27 and 14 yards on consecutive plays on the second team offense's second possession … Ramonce Taylor had runs of 24 and 10 yards to open the first team offense's third possession, which was capped by a 36-yard TD pass from Vince Young to Chris Ogbonnaya … on the second team offense's fourth possession, Matt Nordgren connected with Tyrell Gatewood for 28 yards, a drive that was finished with a six-yard TD run by Marcus Myers … on the first team offense's final possession, Vince Young completed passes of 14 and 24 yards to David Thomas on the first two plays, then found Ogbonnaya for 13 yards yards, but the first team defense held inside the 10-yard line.
