Scaife taken in sixth round by Tennessee Titans
University of Texas tight end back Bo Scaife was selected by the Tennessee Titans with the fifth pick of the sixth round of Saturday's NFL Draft.
Scaife becomes the first Longhorn tight end chosen in the draft since Pat Fitzgerald in the seventh round of the 1997 draft by the Buffalo Bills. He is also the first Longhorn chosen by the Titans since the organization moved to Tennessee from Houston. WR Tony Jones was the last player selected by the team, as the Houston Oilers chose him in the sixth round of the 1990 draft.
Scaife will be catching passes from Titans QB Steve McNair who has a close relationship with Texas QB Vince Young and even attended the Spring Jamboree at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on April 2. Although Scaife also attended, the two did not have the opportunity to meet, something that will shortly change.
"When Tennessee picked me that's the first thing I thought of was Steve McNair," Scaife said. "I have so much respect. He's another guy that battles through injuries and keeps rising to the top. I want to follow his footsteps in that regard."
Scaife is a first-team All-Big 12 pick who completed his career ranked second on the UT all-time TE reception list (75) and third in receiving yards (997). In 2004, Scaife caught 26 passes for 348 yards and two TDs.
Scaife joins Cedric Benson (1st/Chicago Bears) and Derrick Johnson (1st/Kansas City Chiefs) selected in this season's draft, marking three consecutive years the Longhorns have had at least three players chosen with four in both 2003 and 2004. |
