Knebel and Weiss named to NCBWA Preseason All-America team

AUSTIN, Texas – Corey Knebel and Erich Weiss were named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Preseason All-America team the NCBWA announced on Wednesday. Knebel was named a first-team relief pitcher and Weiss earned third-team recognition as a third baseman. In 2011, Knebel set the Texas single-season record with 19 saves. He finished the year with a 3-2 record, 1.13 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 55.2 innings. As a rookie, he was named the NCBWA Stopper of the Year, All-Big 12 First Team, Freshman Pitcher of the Year from both the NCBWA and Collegiate Baseball, Freshman All-America from NCBWA, Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball and All-America status from the NCBWA (first-team), Collegiate Baseball (first-team), American Baseball Coaches Association (first-team) and Baseball America (second-team). Weiss hit .348 in 2011 with 46 runs, 78 hits, four home runs, 45 RBI and 11 stolen bases. He was twice named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week. As a rookie, he was named Big 12 Freshman of the Year, Freshman All-America from NCBWA, Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball, All-Big 12 First Team and Big 12 All-Freshman Team. The Longhorns ended the 2011 season with a 49-19 record and won a share of their 77th conference title and advanced to the College World Series for the 34th time in school history.
