AUSTIN, Texas -- Despite a career-high 344 passing yards by Garrett Gilbert, No. 22 Texas lost to Iowa State, 28-21, on Saturday afternoon at Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.

Gilbert passed for 178 yards and two touchdowns and ran for a 2-point conversion in a fourth-quarter rally that pulled Texas back from a 28-6 deficit.

Texas (4-3, 2-2 Big 12) owned a 25-16 advantage in first downs and a 440-335 edge in total offense.

John Chiles registered a career-high 117 receiving yards and one TD on five receptions to lead UT's receiving corps.

The Longhorns were trailing by 22 points with 13:47 remaining when Gilbert led Texas on a 6-play, 80-yard drive capped by a 17-yard TD pass to Chiles. Gilbert's scramble for a successful two-point conversion cut the lead to 28-14. Texas scored its second TD of the quarter with 3:15 remaining when Gilbert hit Malcolm Williams on a 9-yard TD pass to close the gap to 28-21.

Texas took possession of the ball one last time at its own 10-yard line with 1:01 remaining in the game, but were unable to gain a first down and Iowa State proceeded to run out the clock to end the game.
