Opening statement: We're making a lot of progress. We're still inconsistent because we've got so many new things in, but this was our sixth practice today. We had a good, physical practice after a tough practice on Saturday, and then we'll come back and have a good, physical scrimmage this Thursday. Guys are starting to separate themselves a little bit. We're not going to separate them until after spring break, but right now certain guys are stepping up. On stressing effort: Effort's the difference. We're still young. We're inconsistent in a lot of areas. We lost some of our confidence last year. If we'll have effort, if we'll be tough, if we'll have a great attitude, this will be a fun team to watch. On working on fundamentals: We were 116th in turnover ratio last year, and that's really the reason that we didn't win. We ended up being minus-12 in the seven games we lost in turnover ratio and plus-three in the five games that we won. Obviously turnover ratio is maybe the number one reason you win and lose, and we've gone back and really put an emphasis on it every minute of every day of practice. On older players leading the younger players: We felt like leadership is key to this team. Your hardest workers [and] your best players are usually your best leaders, and I'm seeing seniors take care of younger guys. That's something that we've got to do to be successful. On the offense: I thought the offense was more consistent than the defense today. That usually flips the next practice. There were some big plays on offense. Defensively, when we got on the goal line they stepped up and played pretty well. On Thursday's scrimmage: We'll still look at that tomorrow and see how we are physically and determine how long we can practice and scrimmage on Thursday. We had a goal line scrimmage today that was eight plays - live tackling - and it was really, really good and exciting. So that should help us lead into Thursday's practice.
