Meet the freshmen Q&A: Shiro Davis

June 23, 2012

Your name is very unique. Where did it it come from? I have no idea. I asked my mom, and she said she had heard it somewhere and liked it.

How does it feel to be one of the few players from outside Texas? I feel like Louisiana kids can bring a different game to the program. Bring some news things, in a positive way.

Why did you choose to attend the University of Texas? The family atmosphere. That's definitely what it feels like here. It feels like a family here. I feel home.

What are your thoughts on head coach Mack Brown? He's pretty laid back. Pretty much like myself. He seems like he works hard, and is a fair coach.

Have you had a chance to bond with your fellow freshmen defensive linemen? Yes. I probably talk with Alex [Norman] and Paul [Boyette Jr.] a lot, more than anybody.

Do you feel it is important to build a bond with your teammates? Oh definitely. Just getting the good relationships with your teammates. So they know when you need their help, and same thing - I know when they need my help.

What are your expectations as you move from high school to college? I haven't really had anybody in my family close that played college football. So I don't really know what to expect.

What advice did your family give you before you left Louisiana? Just keep being Shiro, and keep God first.

Has the feeling of being a college football player at Texas set in yet? I don't think it has set in just yet. Because I haven't really freaked out yet. So I don't think it's set in yet.

How do you think it's going to feel to have a Texas jersey with your name and number on it? Oh man, I don't know. But I know it's going to feel good. It's going to feel really good.

Are you excited to play football at Texas? Oh yes. I'm really excited to run out into the crowd and have 100,000 [people] cheering. And hopefully go get a win.
