Meet the freshmen Q&A: Kennedy Estelle

June 30, 2012

Why did you choose to attend the University of Texas? I chose to attend the University of Texas after I sat down with my family and thought about which would be the right decision and which would make me feel most at home. It's not too far from my family. Texas has good team chemistry, and I hope we are going to win a national championship together as a team. I knew this would be the school for me after I came here for camp. I got to meet all the players, all the recruits, and all the coaches and I already felt at home.

What are your thoughts on the coaching staff here at Texas? The coaching staff is great. They all make sure that you are doing what you need to do, they look out for you, and they treat you like you're their own child. Coach Mack Brown is unbelievable. If you need something, all you have to do is call him and ask him and he'll try his hardest to get you what you need. The coaches never leave anyone behind. They always keep picking you up so you can stay up with the team.

What do you think about Texas' facilities? The facilities are great, too. They put a lot of money into them so we can have the best of the best. During the summer we have to share a room, but I know I'll be getting my own room sometime so it's not that big of a deal. They have all the technology you need.

What was your senior season of high school football like? My senior season was good because my sophomore year we made it to fifth round of playoffs, but we lost terribly. But then my senior year we didn't do as bad. We lost but we still had a good run. We had a lot of recruits going to Division I schools, and there was a lot of talent there.

What have you been up to so far this summer? After football and until summer I was working on track. I made it to State and won third place. After that I got back into doing my full workout because I couldn't while I was running track.

How was it meeting your fellow 2012 recruits? It's good. I've met most of them before. It's really cool getting to bond with them before the season starts and getting to see how each other are. It's really fun being able to walk around with them and do this and do that with the team.

How do you feel about starting your college career at Texas? It's really exciting because I know I have a chance to start. I'll just have to put in the hard work and do what's needed. I look forward to working my tail off for the coaches and for the starting position at left tackle.

What will it feel like seeing your name on the back of a Texas jersey? I'm going to feel ecstatic. It's always been a dream to go to college and play football. Most people don't get that kind of opportunity. I've put God first, and I know He's going to lead the way. My parents will love it and my whole family will be really proud to see me in a Texas jersey and on the TV.
