Meet the freshmen Q&A: Hassan Ridgeway

Why did you decide to play football at the University of Texas?
Texas is a great school, and the class is awesome. I like all the people that are in it, and they have a great coaching staff.

Are you ready for the college football experience?
Oh, yes. I’m already here, so I have to be ready. But it is a challenge.

What advice did your family give you as you headed off to college?
They said to stay focused and work your butt off.

What are your thoughts on head coach Mack Brown?
One of the reasons I came to Texas is because of Mack Brown. I thought he was a great coach, and I like how he does things at Texas and I wanted to be here with it.

What goals have you set for yourself this summer?
Make sure I’m in shape for the season and try to go out and take someone’s spot and help the team get better.

Do you want to be a part of the continuing legacy of great Texas defensive linemen who have gone on to play in the NFL?
I hope to be. Everybody has a goal to go to the league. That’s another reason why I chose Texas because of the legacy of how many defensive ends come [here] and go [on to the NFL.] So I would love to be one of those guys.

What about the facilities here at Texas has impressed you?
Oh, it’s top notch. I’ve been to a couple of colleges and none of them have the stuff that Texas has. From the campus itself to the athletics facilities.

What will be going through your mind the first time you run out of the tunnel with your name on a Texas jersey?
I don’t even know. I probably can’t explain how it is going to feel. I know it’s going to be great. I just can’t wait for it to happen.
