AUSTIN, Texas - As a result of an issue with a reoccurring nerve injury (stinger) in his neck, Texas sophomore tight end Ian Harris will miss the 2009 football season, UT head athletic trainer for football Kenny Boyd confirmed on Wednesday.
"I've been dealing with the stinger for a while, and each time I came back, it would happen again," Harris said. "After talking to the team doctors, we decided it would be best for me to take this year off, rehab and focus on getting healthy. It's been frustrating but injuries are a part of the game. I'm still going to be around the team and I'll help coach Chambers, the tight ends and the team in anyway I can."
A 6-3, 250-pounder from San Antonio's Churchill High School, Harris appeared in three games during 2008, making one reception for seven yards against Arkansas. He spent the 2007 season redshirting.
"Ian has worked hard to try to get out there and help this team but injuries have prevented him from doing that," said Mack Brown. "We're disappointed for him that he keeps having setbacks and is going to miss this season. He's a great kid. We know he'll work with the trainers to get healthy and hopefully get back on the field."
