Texas Football game day information

Aug. 31, 2009

AUSTIN, Texas -- Saturdays in the fall on the Forty Acres mean one thing -- Texas Football. As we approach the 2009 season opener against ULM this Saturday at 6 p.m., here are some events to enhance your game day experience at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.

Texas Football team arrival
Approximately two hours before kickoff, the Texas Football team arrives at the Tom and Cinda Hicks North Gate in front of the Red McCombs Red Zone (north end of Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium). Fans are encouraged to line up and welcome the team as they walk into the stadium and head for the locker room.

Red McCombs Red Zone
The food court located in the Red McCombs Red Zone opens three hours prior to kickoff. Fans will find a variety of concessions in the spacious complex, where they can also to welcome the team (two hours prior to kickoff) and Longhorn Band (20 minutes prior to kickoff) upon their respective arrivals. Inside the Red McCombs Red Zone, fans can view the concrete stains outlining the original north end zone boundaries and stadium gates. Enter thru Gates 14 or 16 to access the Red McCombs Red Zone.

Earl Campbell statue
Beginning two hours prior to kickoff, fans can head to the southwest corner of Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium and check out the Earl Campbell statue. Measuring nine feet tall, this statue celebrates the career of Texas Football’s first Heisman Trophy recipient, No. 20 Earl Campbell (1977). Campbell is widely considered one of the most dominant running backs in college football history.

Frank Denius Veterans Memorial Plaza
Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium was first commissioned as an official veterans’ monument in 1924 and re-commissioned in 2008. Plaques honoring Texans who died in World War I were erected on top of the north end in 1926 and relocated to the northwest plaza after reconstruction was completed in 2008. The plaza is dedicated to Frank Denius, a highly-decorated World War II veteran and longtime Longhorns supporter. The plaza is open for viewing at any time on game day.

Stadium block
The official stadium block of Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium is the area surrounding the stadium, bordered by 23rd Street, Robert Dedman Drive, 20th Street and San Jacinto Blvd. The stadium block is closed to non-permit traffic beginning at 7 a.m. on game day. Fans are encouraged to check out the various interactive displays around the stadium block provided by UT Athletics corporate sponsors.

Tailgating
Tailgating is a huge part of the game day atmosphere for many Longhorns fans. Please enjoy the tailgating experience, but be responsible and respect the safety of yourself and other Longhorns fans.
