| Colt McCoy is a finalist for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, which honors football student-athletes who excel both on and off the field. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior in the Football Bowl Subdivision and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - classroom, character, community and competition. Last year, McCoy was named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. McCoy was one of just 11 players selected from the entire Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), who were honored for the embodiment of the true spirit of "teamwork" and "giving back" through selfless contributions and commendable acts of kindness. McCoy became the sixth Longhorn to be selected to the team in its 17-year history, following Vince Young in 2005, Ricky Williams in 1998, Tyson King in 1996, Tony Brackens in 1995 and Robert Reed in 1994. Among his many community service activities, McCoy spent his 2008 and '09 Spring Breaks on missions to Peru, where he volunteered at a weeklong Christian Sports camp that hosted less fortunate children in the areas of rainforests on the Amazon. He also earned a spot on the Big 12 Good Works team in 2007. |

FROM NATIONAL BROADCASTERS
Matt Millen, ESPN
One of the things that impresses you about Colt McCoy is he sees the whole field, then he's a good decision maker. There's a lot underneath, but not at the expense of looking down the field…Colt McCoy is in complete control. The ball is going exactly where he wants it to go.
What I like about him is he's a coach on the field, the game is never too big for him, and he's always in control.
Kirk Herbstreit, ESPN
Colt McCoy is a winner, and this offense is growing around him.
Colt McCoy and this offense are really doing about anything they want to do. They're executing at a different level.
With four boys of my own, if my kids could grow up to be like Colt McCoy, I'll feel like I've done my job as parent. He seems very sincere. For a guy who gets so much individual attention, he seems to do a very good job deflecting that, talking about his linemen, talking about his defense, saying, 'It's not just me. It's the whole team.' (The Longhorns) should feel very blessed to have a guy like that as their leader, because that's not always the case.
Richard Durrett, ESPNDallas.com
McCoy's leadership and steady play should earn him some consideration from those with a Heisman Trophy ballot. McCoy was a master timekeeper. He directed the offense with precision, completing tough passes that deflated the costume-clad crowd.
Steve Yanda, Washington Post
In Texas's past three games, the Longhorns have played like the national title contenders they've been billed as all season long, and McCoy's performance has risen in step. After throwing eight interceptions in his first seven games, McCoy has thrown just one in the past three. He has thrown five touchdowns in that three-game span and has climbed back into the driver's seat for the (Heisman).
FROM OPPOSING COACHES AND PLAYERS
Josh Thomas, ULM linebacker
His timing is just amazing. His release is so quick. I mean, we were getting pressure, and we couldn't even touch him at some points.
Charlie Weatherbie, ULM head coach
There's no doubt in my mind that Texas is the No. 1 team in the country. They're a great football team, have great talent, and of course with Colt McCoy running the show out there, he's an excellent quarterback. It seems like he's slippery, gets out of trouble and makes things happen.
Mike Price, UTEP head coach
We were running guys in and out, trying to keep guys fresh and he just does a great job managing the game. I don't know if this was even one of his better games. I don't know what his statistics were. They pulled him soon, and they should to keep him healthy for the long season, because they're going to be in every game. They have a chance to go all the way.
Brian Jackson, Oklahoma DB on Colt McCoy's tackle following an interception
I was looking to the end zone and I kind of saw him out of my peripheral, but I saw a chance to score, so that was all I was looking forward to. He is an athlete. You saw how many times he ran the ball. Not many quarterbacks in the nation can run like he did.
Bill Young, Oklahoma State defensive coordinator
McCoy scrambled for 19 or 20 yards. That is what led to that touchdown right before half time. Any time you lose containment on a guy like that who is such a good athlete, you are going to be burned.
Jordan Pugh, Texas A&M defensive back
I think I played (the Heisman Trophy winner). He led. After the game, I told him to go get a championship -- Big 12 and National Championship.
FROM TEXAS COACHES AND PLAYERS
Head coach Mack Brown
Colt is a terrific football player, person and the ultimate student-athlete. He handles himself with great character and class on and off the field, is always giving back to someone in the community and is just a terrific young man. As a football player, he works extremely hard to prepare himself, sets a great example for everyone on the team and is a guy that has made so many big plays and holds pretty much every record a quarterback can have here. But, the most important thing to a coach and a program is winning and that's all that matters to Colt. From day one, his ultimate focus has been doing whatever he needed to do to win and now he's done that more than any quarterback in NCAA history. He's a special young man, who despite the difficult task of following in the footsteps of one of the greatest quarterbacks in college football history in Vince Young, has carved out a great legacy of his own.
WR Jordan Shipley
No one works harder than Colt. I've never met anyone with his commitment to being the best player and best teammate.
Ricky Williams, Texas' Heisman Trophy-winning former running back
I think he's had a good year. I know what it feels like to play with that pressure [of being a Texas star] every day. Being a quarterback, McCoy's lived with that even more than I ever experienced. I think he really helps get the most out of their young receivers and young running backs. They're a really young team, especially on offense. I think he's done a great job as a leader, as a quarterback and he's a winner.
FROM OTHERS
Archie Manning
I have had the opportunity to watch all these young college quarterbacks in games and also in highlights, but the one guy I was more impressed with in person than just watching on television was Colt (McCoy). Colt reminds me a lot of Drew Brees. He is smart, very accurate, he has great field presence and he has better arm strength than many give him credit for. Colt has a super quick release and that ball comes out of there real fast. He is a great college quarterback and he has a chance to be a real good NFL starter also.
Roger Staubach
I've really enjoyed getting to know Colt as a person and watch him grow as a football player. There's things we have in common as far as that competitive fire and desire to excel. There's intangibles about players and I really sensed that he had those intangibles as a leader. I think he's a really smart and talented football player.
He's going to get my vote. He's epitomized leadership and winning. He's been, I think, the finest quarterback in the country.
