Robinson named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week

Junior linebacker Keenan Robinson has been selected as the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for week one, the Big 12 has announced. In the 34-17 win over Rice on Saturday, Robinson had six tackles, including five solo, one tackle for loss, one interception and a touchdown. His interception came in the first quarter that led to a field goal and enabled the Longhorns to tie the game at 3-3. His second quarter touchdown came after a forced fumble by DE Sam Acho. Robinson scooped the ball up at the Rice 10-yard line and rumbled into the end zone to give Texas a 17-3 lead. Robinson led a Texas defense that held Rice to zero total yards gained in the third quarter. Overall, the Longhorn defense held Rice to 219 yards on 60 plays (3.7 average) while forcing two turnovers with nine tackles for loss and three sacks for minus-32 yards. Robinson shares the honor with Missouri DE, Aldon Smith.
