Brown named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week
Sept. 20, 2010
Senior cornerback Curtis Brown has been selected as the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for week three, the Big 12 has announced.
In the 24-14 win over Texas Tech on Saturday, Brown had two tackles, an interception and a pass breakup. He also returned three punts for 35 yards.
His third quarter interception lead to a field goal that broke a 14-14 tie and put Texas ahead to stay. With Texas Tech driving inside the Longhorns’s 20-yard line, Brown read the play, stepped in front of the intended receiver, then ran 74 yards with the interception to the Tech 12-yard line. The ensuing field goal made the score 17-14 and tipped the momentum in the Longhorns’ favor.
Brown led a Texas defense that posted a second half shutout and forced a three-and-out or a turnover on nine of Tech’s 13 drives. The Longhorn defense held Texas Tech to 144 total yards of offense including minus-14 rushing yards. This was the Red Raiders' lowest offensive output since 1997.
Brown shares the honor with Nebraska DB, Eric Hagg.
