RB Joe Bergeron
On the team’s mindset entering Big 12 play: It is the beginning of conference play, and we have put an emphasis on that. It is time to play now. We are trying to win the Big 12 Championship, so this is our first stepping-stone to get there.

On how Texas' defense will respond to OK State: Going against our defense in practice so much, [I see] that they are prepared for anything. Even when they hit me, I am used to it, but they still bring something. It should be a very interesting game. 

On QB David Ash's improvement: David has shown me growth every game. He is just improving, and I see that in him. I am excited to see how he is down the road as well as next year and the year after that. He is playing excellent, to me.

On how the offensive line matches up against Oklahoma State’s defensive line: In my head, our offensive line can handle anything. Just going off of their work from day one until now, they put in the hardest work on the team that I’ve seen. They have that mindset, and they have the physical ability. It should be an interesting game, and I am excited to see what they are going to do.

On the offense gaining an identity from their success at Ole Miss: Our offense had an identity from the jump. We had something to prove from last year, and we are really just building on what we had from last year and going up from there. We have been going out and playing our game. We are doing what we have been coached. Each player has been brought here for a reason, and that is what we are doing.

RB Malcolm Brown
On the team’s confidence level: Our confidence is high. We all have confidence in each other. This team, we believe in each other and have faith in each other. We’re going to go in and just play ball. I know the coaches have made great decisions for years. They’ve been coaching this game for a long time. So they’re going to call the plays, and we’re going to go out and execute as well as we can.

On ball security: It’s more of a focus thing. If you work on it during practice it will become a habit for you. It’s working on that ball security, and they pretty much have us working on that every single day in practice. They emphasized it even more this year. Just focusing in on it. Working on it during practice. Just keeping that ball high and tight. It will become a habit to you.

On Oklahoma State redshirt freshman LB Ryan Simmons: I talk to Ryan pretty much on a daily basis. It will be fun for us – just to see him out on the field. Going up against each other and stuff like that. We’ve been playing together since eighth grade. It will be really fun. I’ll be happy to see him after the game and talk to him a little bit, just enjoy it.

On the mindset heading into conference play: We know we’re going into the conference. We honestly want to play every game like it’s our last. It doesn’t matter who we’re playing. If we’re playing the worst team or the best team – we’re going out and firing off the ball like we always do. And like we’ve always practiced.


WR Jaxon Shipley
On today’s practice: It was good. There were people competing out there. There was a lot of energy. So we got started off on a good note.

On preparing for conference play: It definitely means more. This is where it gets important. Not that it wasn’t important before, but now there is definitely a sense of urgency in everything we’re doing. It’s a big deal, and we know that. So we’ve got to make sure we’re having a good practice every day.

On the running and passing game: I think they both complement each other. If we’re having a good running game and they’re playing the run, then we can throw it over the top with a pass. And if we’re having a good pass game, then they’re backing their guys off, we can split up the middle with the run. I think both those things kind of feed off of each other.

On establishing the deep passing game against Ole Miss: I think we’ve shown that we can throw the ball down the field, and we’ve got a good passing game. Those teams are going to have to play the passing game as well as the running game. Because I know that they’ve been playing the run a lot, because we do have a good run game. I think last game showed that we’re dangerous downfield, and they’re going to have to play that as well.

On sophomore QB David Ash: He hasn’t thrown an interception all year. Especially having a game like that, throwing for 300-something yards and no interceptions, and I think four touchdowns. I mean you’ve got to put your trust in that guy. He’s definitely very confident right now.
