Ash named Manning Award Star of the Week

Texas Longhorns sophomore quarterback David Ash has been selected as one of eight Manning Award Stars of the Week for his performance against Iowa State, the Manning Award has announced today.

College football fans can now go to the Allstate Sugar Bowl Facebook page to vote for what they think was the best performance from this past weekend. The top vote-getter will be announced as the Manning Award Player of the Week. Voting closes on Thursday at 11 a.m. (Central). Vote here.

Against Iowa State this weekend, Ash completed 25 of 31 attempts for 364 yards (10th all-time on the UT single-game list) and two touchdowns to help the Longhorns defeat the Cyclones, 33-7.

Ash now has three 300-yard passing games this season (Iowa State, Oklahoma State and Ole Miss). He moved into ninth place on the UT career passing yards list with 3,433 yards passing in his two seasons of play. He overtook Bobby Layne (1944-47/3,145), who was 10th, and on Ash's second TD pass, he moved ahead of Garrett Gilbert (2009-11/3,301). Ash completed his first 11 passes of the game.

In 2012, Ash has completed 183 of 264 attempts (69.3 pct) for 2354 yards and 17 touchdowns.
