Nov. 28, 2011

AUSTIN, Texas - Two members of the Texas Longhorns football team received recognition from the Big 12 Conference for their performances against Texas A&M on Thanksgiving night. Sophomore CB Carrington Byndom was selected as the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, and senior PK/P Justin Tucker was selected as the Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week. This was Byndom’s first time to win the Big 12 honor and Tucker’s second award of the season and third of his career.

Byndom had a 58-yard interception for a touchdown in the third quarter, erasing a nine-point deficit to make the score 14-16. Byndom’s touchdown sparked a 17-point third quarter for the Longhorns on their way to defeating Texas A&M 27-25. The sophomore defensive back posted seven tackles (three solo), one interception, three pass break ups and one TFL on the night. Byndom and the Longhorn defense held the Aggies to 20-of-49 passing for 224 yards, 69.7 yards below their season average. For the season, Byndom has 53 tackles (37 solo), eight TFL, two interceptions, 14 pass break ups, one forced fumble and one quarterback pressure.

Tucker kicked a 40-yard game-winning field goal with three seconds left in regulation to propel the Longhorns to a 27-25 win over the Aggies in College Station. Tucker became just the sixth kicker in Texas history to kick a game-winning field goal on the game’s final play. He also connected on a 23-yard field goal in the third quarter to make the score 17-16, giving Texas their first lead of the night. Tucker added two PATs, accounting for a total of eight points on the night. Tucker is now 16-of-18 (.889) for field goals on the season, and 39-of-45 (.867) for his career. He is now a perfect 4-for-4 on kicks of 40-49 yards this year.
