DALLAS - Defensive end Alex Okafor and safety Kenny Vaccaro highlighted the eight Texas Longhorns who were recognized Wednesday with All-Big 12 football honors.

Okafor and Vaccaro, both seniors, were voted to the first-team defense by the league's 10 head coaches. Okafor, who is one of only two players in the league with at least 8.0 sacks and three forced fumbles, was placed on the first team for the second-straight year, as was Vaccaro who has a career-high 100 tackles in 2012.

Junior guard Trey Hopkins was voted to the second-team offense, while wide receiver Mike Davis, running back Johnathan Gray (as offensive freshman of the year), punter Alex King, returner D.J. Monroe and wide receiver Jaxon Shipley received honorable mention nods.

Davis (54) and Shipley (51) have combined for 105 receptions this season. Davis has a team-high seven touchdown receptions and Shipley is second with six.

Gray leads the Big 12 and ranks 17th in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) in rushing among freshmen (56.9 ypg) and Monroe would lead the conference in kickoff-return average (26.5) by does not enough attempts to qualify.

King, in his first season with Texas, ranks second in the Big 12 in punting (45.3 ypp) and would rank ninth in the FBS, but he does not have enough attempts to qualify.

The Longhorns, ranked 23rd in the final BCS standings, will play No. 13 Oregon State on Saturday, Dec. 29 (5:45 p.m. CST) in the Valero Alamo Bowl in San Antonio.
