Men's Track & Field finishes fourth overall at New Balance Invitational
Feb. 4, 2012 NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. -- The fourth-ranked Texas Men's Track & Field team came in fourth overall with 44 points at the New Balance Invitational in New York City. The pole vault was the strongest event of the day for the Longhorns as two individuals finished in the top 10. Junior Maston Wallace reached a height of 5.30m for second place on the day. He surpassed last week's height of 5.25m. Sophomore Mark Thomas finished tied for second with a height of 5.20m. In the weight throw, Hayden Baillio had a toss of 17.58m for 11th place while Jacob Thormaehlen came in 20th with a throw of 16.52. Thormaehlen was coming off a tremendous shot put performance on Friday in which he won the event with a personal best 19.89m. Mark Jackson came in 12th on Saturday in the triple jump (15.00m) while Jarard Bruner was 16th (14.78m). In the 200m prelims, Texas had four competitors. D.J. Monroe had the fastest time of 21.85 which put him 20th overall. The 4x400m relay team took eight place with a time of 3:14.22 as well. The overall men's champion was Texas A&M with 85 points at the event which is held at The Armory. LSU was second with 75 points, Mississippi State third with 59 points and Baylor fifth with 36 points.
Next weekend the Longhorns will split the squad, competing at both the New Mexico Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. and the SPIRE Invitational in Cleveland, Ohio. |
