Men's Track & Field signee sets high school mark

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas signee Reese Watson cleared the highest mark in the nation for the pole vault this past weekend. Just last week Watson, a senior at Spring High School in Spring, Texas, signed a national letter of intent with the University of Texas men's track and field program. This past weekend at Joshua, Texas Watson cleared a national best 17-7 to win the high school elite division by more than a foot. The previous best was 17-01.91 by Nikita Kirillov of St. Pius X Catholic in Georgia. Watson placed third at the 2010 Texas 5A state championship meet, clearing 15-6 and was the 5A District and Regional champion that year. He also took first place at the 2010 Youth Olympic Trials with a mark of 15-7. At the 2010 Texas Relays he won the B group with a mark of 15-6.
