Around the horn with Texas Softball: Jersey numbers
Feb. 7, 2012
This week’s question: Why did you choose your jersey number? Lexy Bennett (No. 51): I chose 51 because growing up Randy Johnson was my role model. I loved that 51 was such a unique number that no one else had. Kim Bruins (No. 2): (I wear No. 2) because of the great Derek Jeter and 2 was my sister’s number. Courtney Craig (No. 25): I was given this number by my coach when I was 14, and it has stuck with me ever since. It’s seemed to bring me luck. Krissie Fountain (No. 9): I wear 9 because it was given to me in high school, and I used it for multiple sports. Over the years I started viewing it as my lucky number, and it has stuck ever since. Rachel Fox (No. 44): (I) chose this number because (when I played) on my travel ball team I was 44. That team was great, and I have loved the number ever since and (also) a lot of good players have worn 44. Marlee Gabaldon (No. 7): I chose No. 7 because I grew up playing softball as No. 7. A few of my family members were also No. 7, and I learned to love and cherish that number. I was blessed to keep this number till this day. Taylor Hoagland (No. 6): I chose No. 6 because I was 6 years old when my sister was born and she is my No. 1 fan. Blaire Luna (No.12): (I wear No. 12) because my birthday is in December.
Mandy Ogle (No.5): I picked 5 because when I was younger, me and my oldest brother always fought and he was No. 5 at the time, so it was a little way to show (him) that I did look up to him. Torie Schmidt (No. 4): I chose the No. 4 because it is my brother’s favorite number. My brother is 23 years old, but he has Down’s syndrome and he has been my best friend and inspiration my entire life. Karina Scott (No. 22): (22 is) the first number I’ve ever played with, picked by my mommy. I have worn it most of my life. Gabby Smith (No. 18): (I wear No. 18) because it’s an even number, and it was my mom’s lucky number. Nadia Taylor (No. 88): I chose No. 88 because I couldn’t be No. 8. That was Cat Osterman’s number, and its unofficially retired in our locker room. I wore No. 8 because I’ve worn it since I was really little and my mother wore No. 8. Taylor Thom (No. 11): I wear 11 because my birthday is on Sept. 11, and it’s my favorite number. It’s also the first number I ever wore. Brejae Washington (No. 20): I chose this number because this is the number my biological father wore when he played football, and in 2005 my father died of cancer, so I started wearing his number (ever) since. |
